Warm off the Press

MOM

Since you guys already know about our sudden "good news" on the house selling here's a bit of the detail. Dad and I are methodically packing boxes. Right now we have that luxury, in a couple of weeks, we'll just be throwing stuff in. Our date to be out of the house is August 2nd. I have a lady committed to give her boxes to us who is unpacking as we speak and Jodi is getting us some from her work. Also, we are probably going to rent a storage shed in Centerville in the next week or so and begin moving stuff into it.

We just weren't sure if they could install satalite on top or underneath the viaduct so we are looking at some various alternatives for the viaduct or van by the river. We may move into Jodi and Matt's house. That would be great and thanks for the offer Jodi. Many others have offered, Craig, 3 people at my work and several at Dad's work. One offered her tent trailer in the back yard if we are just careful were we walk to get to it since they have a dog. We are currently checking into student housing at the UofU since I qualify as a staff and a student for this option. It would be pretty cool to walk to work. So I guess with that, we'll take a few pictures and then we'll all have the good memories of a wonderful home.

I like this blog idea. Not the pressure to get something in every week, but just whenever we have something to say. Even g'ma found some advantages when she was trying to look up Kyle's address. And if g'ma can do this, then she becomes our shining example of how it can work. Way to go on the job and the classes Bryn! Kyle, you have be awesome at informing us as to your NYC life. Keep that up. Would love to hear from the rest of you about your stuff as well.

Love you all bigger than BearLake in May.

New Jersey has a state fair?

Kyle

The answer is ......... yes, New Jersey does have a state fair. A group of us went on Saturday and it was pretty exciting. Incidentally, we took a few photos. So here's some other big news: If any of you have been dying to kill a few hours looking at thousands of photos of my life over the past few years, I've found a way to display them all on the internet! So, if you want to see my state fair pics or any other pictures of stuff that I've been doing, feel free to take a look: picasaweb.google.com/kylepoll .

It was a pretty exciting week. We went to the Apollo Theater on Wednesday and saw Amateur Night at the Apollo. It was a really cool experience. Also, we went to this place called the Shake Shack on Monday. It's this really popular shack in Madison Square Park that serves....guess what... you guessed it, shakes and burgers. It's overpriced and over-hyped, but I'm glad we went. I won't bore you all with all of the other stuff I've been doing, but suffice it to say that it's been a pretty great week in NYC.

Now I'll talk about Aliye. Two weeks ago, this 21 year old guy came to church on his own velition. He's a shy kid and wasn't really talking to anyone. It wasn't tough for me to see that he was a little out of place, so I started talking to him. Well, it turns out he met some senior missionaries in Portland about three years ago. They left a good impression on him and he moved to New York not too long after that. Well, a few weeks ago he decided to find a Mormon church and go to the Sunday meetings. Well, I invited him to FHE the next night and he came out. I gave him a Book of Mormon with my testimony in it and he was incredibly grateful. It’s been just over a week now and he’s read the introduction, 3 Nephi 11, Moroni’s promise, and he’s now in 1 Nephi 13 starting from the beginning. He’s really enjoying it. He came to church on Sunday and loved it and we’re having the first discussion with the sister missionaries on Wednesday. Last night he came to FHE again and we walked across the Brooklyn Bridge. We had some great talks about the gospel and he’s excited to learn more and more. It has truly been a fabulous experience.

Jodi, my heart aches for you and for Matt too. I love you so much and I pray for you constantly. On the way to work this morning I was listening to a talk by Elder Wirthlin called “Sunday will Come”. He said, “We all have our Fridays, but Sunday will come.” He is, of course, referring to the Friday that the Lord was crucified and the Sunday that he was resurrected. I just want you to know that as you go through this Friday, we’re with you, we love you, and more than that, He’s with you, and He loves you. Thanks for being there for me Jode. I love you!

80th Birthday

ibmom & gma

Dear Family,

It's only 9:30 p.m. but I am exausted. Today has been a super fantastic day. All of Jill & Gary's kids have called. I missed talking to Kyle cause I was on the line with someone else. Troy called and sang to me. Brynley called and she and her roommate sang the birthday song. Jodi called and our prayers will be with her. Let me try and thank you all. I love you so much. I talked with Abbey and Spencer and Ryan and Catherine; Jeff, Linda, Allision and Chuck and Carson and Talan and Stewart called too. Cory called from Tennessee and Ronda called from Kaysville and I talked with Jackson, and Mike in the background. Shaylee and Ben called. My room mate that lives in St. George, Orvilla; Our home teachers came over and brought some brownies. A friend from Temecula Cal. called. Then I had a conference call from all but Joel. I talked with Joel and Zack this morning. All our children helped host the dinner at the Hyatt Regency last night. That was awesome. The food was excellent and the restaurant revolved. Thanks Jill for the card you arranged. I love you all much and will send pictures in next week's blog of the wonderful scenery and things we saw from the revolving reatuarant. gma & ibmom

Run run run

Brynley
Today has been a day of great reflection for me. We did have a change in our ward today, and it appears that I won't be affected much by the change, they took a sliver of our ward and part of another ward and made a third ward. But the emphasis of the meetings were on change and the importance of finding opportunitity in change. Right now my life has had some minor changes, and I'm looking for more, and just hope that I can find the opportunities that come through these small changes. I found a second job that may actually contribute to my degree, I'm going to talk to my advisor tomorrow and see if I can do my project with this company and get a school credit all for working with them on Wednesday afternoons. There are several other companies that I have offered my services to, and are slowly getting back to me. I'm afraid I've promised more people time than I have to offer. But I'm sure everything will work out. Tomorrow I hand in my final stats test, and that is finally behind me. This week I'll be going to a drug conference at the U and I'll get a couple credits too. I ran in the ragnar relay wasatch back race this weekend. It was a neat experience, I've got a sore hamstring, but all in all, it wasn't too bad.
I have been so grateful for so many things that I have and I have been again reminded of how fortunate I am to have MY family. Jodi, my heart hurts to hear of your current situation. I love this family so much, and just as with everyone, it is painful to hear and know of others struggles. I agree with mom however, that we are so lucky to have each other! This is how and when we grow closer together and closer to the Lord. My prayers will contintually be with both you and Matt as you go through this change. I am sorry life is hard right now, but I know we can have the comfort that is much needed, how blessed we are for that. Jodi, we are behind you guys all the way. I love you all so much. Thanks for being my family!

Sunshine Days

Mom

My Wonderful Family,
Hello to all. I guess we have Troy in St. George, Brynley in Logan, Kyle in NY, and Jodi and Katherine are going to Ikia and Dad and I are working around this house of ours getting ready for an iminent move (who knows when) and 24 people to feed Chicken Cordon Bleu tonight before the play. Even tho Jodi called and invited us to go to this huge home deco and furniture store extraordinaire, I told her it would be like a diabetic going into a candy store. I'm sure I would see something I wanted, but since we are saving our $$ for building a house, we better start there first.

Life changes around every corner. Everyday I wake up, I think well at least I'm breathing so that is the same as yesterday, but the rest, you just never know. When Jodi called us on Friday night and told us what happened as she explained below, we decided that it was best this time to let the family understand what is going on as it is being played out. We agreed that we really work better as a family team than not. I am grateful every day for the love and support that you kids show to not just us as your parents, (kind of standard in many families) but to each other on a daily basis (not standard in many families). My dream, my greatest desire as you kids were growing up was that you would get along with each other. So you have all exceeded my hopes. It seems that not only do you get along and love each other, but you EVEN like to DO stuff together and be together. I could not ask for anything more. Because I LOVE to do stuff with any and all of you too!!

So as a response of Jodi's comments below, I am sure that I can speak for all the family, that we will continue to love and support Jodi in her new found "independence." Some things in life are by choice and some things happen to us that we have little control over. There is a saying that goes something like "if everything continues the same, outcomes will be the same."

This time, things are going to be different, for Jodi, for Matt, for all of us as. It is the only way that we will be able to expect a different outcome. I believe that is what we all want. None of us are sure what the outcome should be, we all just know it cannot continue the same. We will become better as a result.

I love you all. Stay true to your faith and to your family.

Drama

Jodi
Grandma made a great request to have everyone start by putting their name at the first of their post so we know who we are reading about before we get to the bottom...Great Idea I think.

Well we still need to get Troy logged in but that is my bad, so I'll send his info to the right spot and we'll try to get 100% for the next week. Also Ryan and Katherine need to get into the blog so let me know if you need help with that!

Here is my update. Last night Matt moved out. He went to his counselor yesterday and said he has been lying this whole time and his addiction is not getting better but it is the same. I think they were expecting me to freak out and kick him out, but I just kind of didn't react to much. So his counselor came over and said he thinks it would be best if Matt left and worked things out and I agreed its time to move on, cuz 4 years is a lot of time to be on a waiting list for something good to happen!

So now I'll be living on my own for a bit which is fine, I've been down this road before. After I die they are going to make a good soap opera of my life so I can't wait to see how that program turns out.

Anyways don't worry, I'm fine...you know how much I like my independence so now I have it. But thought I should let you all know what is going on.

Love you all
-Jodi

Well here goes nothing. I hope no one else gets in this blog. But Kyle was the only one that wrote last week so you might want to change it back to e-mail. I so enjoy hearing from you guys. Way to go Kyle to England and around. Today, my GERU came over and got me in this blog so I hope it works. She also tried for about the tenth and last time to get into my cook book. It was such an old system, it wouldn't print etc. etc. But she tried and showed me how I can get into Pillsbury that Jill got me a long time ago. It may even be outdated. She reinstalled the program and showed me where I can type my recipes in and can get them printed. I may need a new program cause it may not hold enough. But I will get hold of Pillsbury if I can and see if its workable. I don't do any entertaining and not a lot of cooking any more, but I still get calls for a recipe and liked having mine there. It's too bad they'll all need to be retyped. Something to do when I retire from school. I'm ready (or not) to take a mid term on the World Civilization Class. But there are so many ambiguish and unknowns. I've written the Prof. to see what can be done. He wants a mid-term paper, but there's not a typewriter where I take the test. He said it should be double spaced and 10-12 sized letters. Good luck to you all in all your endeavors. Hope Brynley is ready to get her degree in August, is it? Diamondbacks won last night in a surprize finished. We turned the TV off in the 6th inning. Paper said this m,orning they'd won and I listened to the radio this afternoon and they won again against the Tampa Bay team. Tampa had newvewr lost here. Amazing. Love you all. It's 107 degrees at 4?50 p.m. ibmom & GMA

The Atlantic Ocean is cold.......I think

It’s been another exciting week here in the big city. I’d say the biggest event of the week was me purchasing tickets to fly to London on August 10th – August 22nd. I’m pretty darn excited about the whole deal. We’re planning on going to London, Paris, Italy, and Barcelona. It should be a blast. This weekend I went to the beach with the ward. We had some beach clean-up service deal and it was okay. We spent a few hours cleaning one beach and the plan was to go to another beach afterwards and get in the water. Well, when we showed up at the other beach, they gave us t-shirts, gloves, and more trash bags and said, “Thanks so much for coming to clean!” There were TV cameras filming us and everyone was so grateful for our help. We just didn’t have the heart to tell them that we’d been cleaning all day and we just came to hang out on the beach. So we ended up cleaning again until a storm came and we all got back on the bus. So I’ve yet to set foot in the Atlantic Ocean although I spent an entire day on its coast. It was still a pretty cool activity. Yesterday in church a guy just came for the first time. His name is Aliye and he’s coming to FHE tonight. I’m going to give him a Book of Mormon with my testimony in it. I love meeting so many people who aren’t members of the church. It’s so neat having the opportunity to stand up for who I am and what I believe. I’m meeting lots of new people and having a great experience.

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY DAD!!

I’m so grateful for my wonderful Dad and I thank my Heavenly Father every day for sending me to such a wonderful family with goodly parents who love the Lord. Thanks Dad for your example, your love, your commitment to us and to the Gospel. I love you more than words can express.

These are my hands rolling sushi, notice there is no picture of me eating the sushui, And that meat is eel, QUE RICO! It was a pretty rockin party at my house though.

1 More week

Hello family and happy father's day father!
It was good to be with almost everyone again today, Kyle you're always missed, but it appears that you are having a great time in the Big Apple. This week was not my favorite, but there were a lot of good things that happened too. Things of significance: I got stung by another bee, I don't think it was a big bee, but it has sure made my foot big, and not so fun to walk on. It appears, or at least feels that I will have a few more appointments with Rick in getting another tooth fixed, I've had quite the headache the past couple of days, but I'm sure that Rick will fix me up. I went to a relief society retreat with my ward. It was good for me to finally meet some sisters in my ward. I went to a baby shower for Kim Hyde, now there was a flashback of memories and people. I was able to see all of those fun Oakforest friends that were all so important to me until about 9th grade. Everyone of them married with children, or well on their way. Enough said about that. Oh I also finished the Book of Mormon this week, I absolutely love that book and am so grateful for the sacrifices that so many made so that we can be blessed by its message. It also makes me very grateful to live in a day where we have so much, and most of all the fullness of the true gospel. It's so cool! Well one week left of stats, and I think I'll live through it, especially if I put some time into it in the next couple of days. Thursday I'll be done! I sure do love life and I love my family, it's so good to be alive! Have a wonderful week!

DAD

Good Monday Morning family
I will spend some time, some other time figuring out the blog. I hope that this can be read by all concerned and maybe a few unconcerned people.
The past week has been delightful! I appreciate our family support of the Slater Reunion. Events like that are really a big deal to my parents. I also think that it is good for us to see the extended family that we are all a part of. It is also interesting to see how one marriage, combining two families together starts a whole new family with its unique traditions, likes and dislikes, mannerisms, dress patterns, speech and lifestyle. The Slater family has become quite diverse in just a couple of generations. I notice that same diversity when we get together with the Marlers, the Brimleys or the Polls. I am so grateful that my Mom and Dad hooked up together. I am also thankful for our little Gary and Jill Poll family. I am so grateful for my wife and for her energy, habits, support, love and goodness. Not to mention her un-matched beauty.
As I think all of you know, we have accepted an offer on our home. It is contingent upon the buyers selling their home, so it is anything but a done deal, but we are excited and optimistic. We are also in the middle of trying to make some decisions on our new home. Every little decision seems to have a big dollar sign right next to it. I am also loving our current home more all the time. It is a great place. I wish that we could take care of it. It's the old "torn between two lovers" thing.
Please take note that on Sunday July 1, there will be an 80Th Birthday party for Grandma Poll at Craig and Jacki's house starting at 6 PM. Ryan, Jodi and Brynley are assigned to each bring a salad. Mom and I have a Giant pot of baked beans and 4 Marie Calender pies. Each of us are assigned to have a picture of us and Grandma and a little statement of a memory or of our love or of a favorite thing to Peggy, Tami or Sandi by next Sunday. The reminder send today reads Here is your reminder...
"Please bring your pictures of mom, family etc. for the video and book, NO LATER than next Sunday to Tami, Sandi, or Peg. Sooner would be great if you happen to be able to."
Let me know if I can help any of you.
I love my family. Please keep in touch and let me know if I can do anything for any of you. We love your visits and your phone calls.
DAD

TROY

Well it was a fun week indeed here in good ole O-Town. I had a good homecoming meeting this weekend where we picked the theme and set a rough plan for the week. We will be chiseling out the details at a meeting later on today. Should be a blast. Looks like we will be able to hold the homecoming dance in the new atrium that is currently under construction which is something that Kyle was a part of in his presidency. Things have also been going really well with the whole campus relations thing at the institute. I am one of the only council members that has been busy during the summer. Right now we have orientations happening at the school that we are trying to have at least two counsel members at each session to greet the future students with an otter pop, a frisbee, and an invitation to come to institute activities. It was fun to go to the Slater family reunion this last Saturday and see the family and to see Dad do a great job of paying tribute to our living relatives.I love yall and hope all are doing well.

GRANDMA

A reminder that the Brimley News letter is due into Ivard or Elizabeth by the end of July. I've got mine in already. It just took 5 minutes, so go for it. Today was Stake Conference and we couldn't go because it's impossible to park and walk so far. Perhaps GPA will go to Sacrament Mtg. with me next week. Tomorrow, we both have an appointment with our internist. Today, The Diamondbacks beat Boston 5 to 1. It's been a real good series. Boston beat the first two games. They had the highest attendance Sat. then any other game. Kurt Schilling didn't pitch for Boston, but Randy Johnson pitched today's game and did an excellent job. I think Ryan and Kathryn went to a Diamondback game where Randy pitched. Right after that, Johnson went to the Yanks and Schilling went to Boston. It got up to 102 this afternoon but cooled down to 90 this evening at 7:30. Got to go. Love you all, ibmom and GMA

JODI
Back from Holland and behind like crazy. Work is busy, life is busy, my house is a mess and I'm sick which makes me tired so I've been going to bed early which means I don't get anything done. Well enough complaining...I'm off to California tomorrow so I will see you on on Fathers Day!

I like summer

I'm not sure what to say right now. But I think I'll find something. I am currently in my stats classroom sitting here by myself, and trying to make a plan. Turns out that this summer is going to be a busy one, but it'll be worth the time so I can be finished with school in December. I've got a project that I need to do that I should probably quit work to complete, but that's not really an option, so we'll just do it. I only have 3 stats classes left, and I wish I understood my teacher better, it's a good thing I've got a good text book. I've been playing some volleyball in my spare time which is always good for my sanity, and trying to be social too. MMM, it's hard to think of anything spectacular to say when there isn't anything extra ordinary like new york, europe, chicago, new homes, homecoming etc. in my life. But school and work and looking for work are keeping me busy and life is really good. I'm so glad that I have such a great family, thanks for being wonderful. luv

I love the park

So I've been in New York the past week. I know it's tough to keep track of me, but it turns out I'm here. So if you need me, 505 E. 88th St. Apt 5D, New York, NY 10128.
It's been an exciting week. Yesterday I went to the Temple in the morning and it was truly magnificent. I donated blood right after that and I gave two pints. Double the blessings! Then I went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It's quite the museum. I went with this girl that I met who is getting her PhD in Art History at NYU so it turns out she knew a little about art. It was a lot of fun because she told me all about what we were seeing. I met up with some friends from BYU last night and we had some good dinner and caught up on what we've all been doing. One of them was my friend that broke her foot in Havasupai. On crutches in New York, poor thing. Well, I'm meeting a lot of really interesting people here. The subways are an adventure and the streets are full of magic. I love Central Park. It's amazing how much is going on there. Yesterday after the Met, we got lunch in the park and watched the wildest roller skating exhibition I've ever seen. We also saw lawn bowling, baseball, croquet, boats, break dancers, and lots of people.

It's been an incredibly enlightening couple of weeks for me in a number of ways. It's the first time in a long time that I've had a little time on my hands to do some pondering and look at my life from a distance so to speak. I have rededicated myself to focusing on the things that matter most to me in this life. Also, I realized that I needed to make some changes with regards to a certain relationship. So from this day until I return to Utah, I will have no more contact with one Heather Tucker. This is really what both of us need and I feel excellent about it. I've been happier than a cop in a donut factory ever since I made that decision. I know you all don't know too much about it and that I don't tend to share stuff like that with you all, but I will just say that things are great now.

I went to a baptism before church today and it was excellent. I love having missionary opportunities every day and I love being a "peculiar" person. I love you all and I love the gospel. I'm grateful for our family and for our Savior Jesus Christ!

Look to God, AND LIVE!

I'm in- finally

Hi Family,
Well, after an hour of trying to figure out how I could post to this wonderful idea that Jod came up with, Brynley let me know that there were 2 emails. So, the second one did it! Yeah, I'm in and posting. I was thrown off because I had created another blog and was somehow trying to connect the two logins. In fact, that is why Bryn has been transformed into our lovely Ms. Davenport because she had helped me previously on my other blog. Welcome MD.

I had a wonderful productive, restful, and active weekend in Chicago. I hope you can preview my pics from this link. As you can tell, I was quite smitten by variety of buildings and picturesque scenes. It was much like when Bryn and I went for our ride in Central Park...just so many different activities and people just doing their thing. The fountain you may see was loaded with brides and wedding parties on Friday. I guess this is the big deal backdrop for wedding pictures. http://new.photos.yahoo.com/jzpoll/album/576460762403745789

This week is the week that our organization (UofU Health Sciences) has been preparing for the past 2 years. We began having clinicians (except physicians) entering all their notes into a computer in an inpatient setting for the first time. A huge organizational change, so we all have 8-12 hour shifts around the clock for 2 weeks to help support that change. Fun times there.

Thanks Jodi for the great idea and getting this started. I will continue to send out my reminder notices everyone can shoot for getting their info in on a weekly basis. Love you all tons more than my extreme dislike of all the carp at BearLake. Now that's saying a lot!

We're bloggin

Hi Fam,

I hope you're all as excited as I am about this new blog. This is my first blogging experience, so I feel pretty special about that.

Looks like Jodi already gave a few details of our trip to Europe. We really did have a great time. I think Holland is about 1/3 of the size of Utah. We took several little bus / bike tours, so I now feel like I know the whole country pretty well. We even made a little trip down to Belgium, so that was neat too. We saw windmills, light houses, huge cathedrals and churches, lots of people on bikes, lots of cows and cheese, and lots of people smoking pot.

I've gained a testimony this past week about the joys of "jet lag." Holland is 8 hours ahead of Utah, so it was quite a shocker for my internal time clock. Also, I must have left my air vent on too long on the way home because I've come down with a pretty strong cold the past couple days. I've never liked the thought of recycled air on the airplane...

Hope you're all doing well.
Love you all.

My First Blog

Hello Family,
I'm thrilled about our new idea, and I'm thrilled that I only have 5 stats classes left. It is going well considering I have only been to 4 classes. My teacher just gave us back our tests and told us he gave us credit for trying which actually will save me, because he gave us the answers and let's just say I was way off:) Let's see, I played in a tounrey on Saturday and I can say that I've had better, but I did have a weekend of volleyball, hiking, biking, swimming and basking in the sun. Turns out that I am very done looking for a job, so I guess I'll wait for something to fall into my lap. I've got an appointment with a "big dawg" in the substance abuse dept. for the county, hopefully I can get a foot in and get a project up and going too. If I do, december graduation will be mine:) That is happy! Life is good, I've made a goal to really make an effort to get involved in my ward, I'm doing it, but it's not easy. Well, I love my family and hope that everyone that wasn't close had a great time away. Thanks to Dad and troy for visiting me last night, it's always good to have someone else here. I love you all!

And it begins

KYLE

Family,
Well another week in the big city has come and gone. It was pretty eventful. I worked, played some soccer, went on a boat cruise around Manhattan, met loads of new people, ate at the Brooklyn Diner (overrated), moved into my place, got fleas, and got soaked. I'm wearing women's socks right now. I went to the gym before work and on the way, I realized that I had forgotten my socks. Well, the local Duane Reed (like Walgreens) only had women's socks, so I figured that's better than sweaty white ankle socks. The boat cruise was spectacular. Manhattan looked great by night from the water. I'll have to email you a pic of the statue of liberty. Bryn, I met Brittany Holman. She's gonna come play some soccer this week. So work is coming along better. I still have a lot to learn, but it's coming right along. My roommate, Otso (he's from Finland) is a cool guy. I think it will work out just fine living with him for the summer. Well, I met these girls the other day and they met this guy at lunch. They talked to him about the church a little and he talked to them about his church. They said they'd go to his church if he came to ours. So they invited me to come along and we had a great experience. We didn't go to his church because they met in a hotel and apparently it had moved to a new location and he didn't know where. So we walked around the park and talked until our church started. We shared a Book of Mormon with him and he came to sacrament meeting. It was neat sharing my testimony of that book with someone who had never heard it again. It has been a long time since I've had that opportunity. Well, I love you all and love hearing from you.

I forgot to add something to my PWW. I don't know if you all heard about Terence's brother but his 18 year old brother AJ was killed in a car accident on Thursday morning. I talked to Terence on Friday and it's been obviously very hard on him and his family. Please keep them in your prayers in their time of need. He forwarded me a few articles today about the crash. I've got the links below.

Jodi
We'll here I am at JFK...home from Amsterdam. We had a fab time. Saw a lot while we are there, but I will be greatful to be home. Our scrapbooking event went well. I learned to speak Brittish so that was a highlight. "Hello, I've got to to to the loo, and Krimee, great scott this we had a quite nice holiday, however our flat did not have a lift so we had to climb the stairs instead" Hows that! A whole new language in just a weekend...We met these crazy girls from the UK and had the best of time with them. Classes went well, and we were a hit. It was fun to be in a different country, but it really makes you appreciate the joys of America...like being able to use a Visa, not having to carry cash around, not paying for the restroom, a 24 hour store, and drive through coffee shop. A house with a yard and no weed in the street, smoke free restraunts and menu's in English. So we have a lot to be greatful for and had a great time too.
I'll send pics later...
Love you all Jodi
