January Blog

I had one of my old young men in my office last week as he was just a day away from leaving for Argentina on his mission. He asked me how many times I'd write and I responded, "Once per year...I won't committ to any more than that when I know that's pushing it."

So maybe I ought to do the same thing with the blog, "Once per month", because any more than that, I've just proven not to be much more consistent than that.

As many of you know, the last several weeks have been pretty tough for the Ryan/Katherine Poll family as far as our health is concerned. Both Abby and Spencer have sustained coughs that have lasted for several weeks. We've taken them to the doctor and treated them with drugs. It's been several weeks since they've both been to church. Spencer was also diagnosed with a major ear infection this week. He had tubes placed in his ears a while ago, but apparently, they're no longer in position to work. Kath has been ill with cold soars running down her throat and a pretty nice cold. I've even had a minor cold the last day or two. So thankfully, it hasn't been anything life threatening, but we're hopeful that we all can get back on our feet soon.

Our house took most of the last week or two off. However, on Friday the windows and doors were installed. That should seal up the house and should allow work to continue. I think it's about time for insulation and then sheet rock. Kath is supposed to be meeting with Bob the Builder today as they continue to make things move forward. Speaking of houses, we saw Dad and Mom's house in Centerville last week....what a cool place that will be!!

Last Saturday, Dad took Matt, Kyle and me to the Utah/BYU game. The seats were awesome and the game was close. After the game, Kyle and I got in a small wrestling match on the way home in the van. Unbeknowest to me, Matt filmed the part that Kyle dominated and stopped when I started to dominate. So as this film filtars across the Internet, please know that I'm not fairly represented. At least, that's my story.

I guess it's family pictures tomorrow. Sounds way exciting to me.

I'm out for January,

First Time Winter lover

Brynley
I'm not sure life can get better than this. I skied all day today, except for the 4 hours I worked tonight. I'm loving skiing more and more and I'm so lucky to have a job that affords me the chance to get to the slopes on slow days. Today I skied with just me and my ipod, and it's something I think i can get used to, though I"m now all tuckered out. I'm picking up a couple of other hobbies too; basketball, yoga, volleyball, cooking, reading, dancing, snowshoeing, sledding, snow football and a little running. I must say that this work 40 hours a week stuff and play the rest is something I'm willing to get used to.
I'm getting yet another roommate within a couple of weeks. She is very nice, and quiet and a good person. It is a girl in my ward who I have visit taught for a few months, so it should be easier to get that done each month.
I hope all is well with each of you. Each time I see my neighbor Ivan, he asks about each of you individually and there are times where I shamefully don't know how to honestly respond to him. So I trust that everyone is doing well, I love to know what's going on in your lives, and apparently Ivan does too. So any dirt you have to give me, I'll pass it along. have a happy day!

I'm 30!!!!

Jodi -

Hello family. I need to say thanks to everyone for such a great birthday. Saturday night was great, my whole family was there...and when we are all together...we are fun! So thanks for making time to spend with us. It was a great night.

On my birthday I woke up and Matt had bought Tasty's donuts! Yum and the house was full of pretty flowers. Then we went to Mimi's Cafe with Matt's family for a Birthday lunch for Matt, Melodie and Me. Then Matt had scheduled a massage for me and I went and got a pedicure. I received a great voicemail from Grandma and Grandpa Marler with their Mormon Tab. worthy voices!! and one from Brynley and Dad too. That always is a day maker. That night we went out to dinner with the Chase family, some friends who live down the street. They are great people who we really like. We played some guitar hero that night and I got some nice e-cards from mom and some other friends...So all in all it was a great day. Thanks to all. Love you a ton.

Carson is doing well. We love it. He is still having some gas problems after he eats, but his constipation is gone so it really is a lot better. He is great when we go out...he just sleeps the whole time...as you saw on Saturday night. The kid knows how to sleep, he's sleeping now...but when he's awake its so fun. Still no smiles, I call him Mr. Serious because he always looks so deep in thought...so we'll have to change that! No serious people in this family for sure.

Things are going well. I do have a bit of work to get to now...after all that playing yesterday, guess i should get back to real life!

Love you all the mostest!

Happy Day

I just thought that I would let me family know how much I love and appreciate them. Yesterday I got to visit my Mother and Father. Dad seems to be doing better. He still has no energy, but I think that they are going to dinner with his sister and brothers and their spouses today. Mom, (Jill) has been helping Dad a little with a way to record his work history. I am going to try and use the same format to help him record his Church callings. I went to a wonderful Family Home Evening yesterday and learned about the resurrection as taught by my favorite grandaughter and her father. We sang and played and it felt good. Then I went and put Carson to sleep. He is a good sleeper. He just lays there so peacefully. I am so thankful for the blessing that he is to our family. Then I went home to the most wonderful person in my world. We started watching "Lost" - the second season. The show is fine, but I love the company I keep when I watch it. It looks like we should close on our new home in a month or so, then we will have another month or so to get the basement finished, the closet, shutters and a few other odds and ends. We really love our ward and the closeness of our commute, so we contemplate moving into that beautiful home with mixed feelings. I talked to Mom a little while ago and we have hopes of getting the family together this Sunday afternoon to celebrate Jodi, Matt and Abby's birthdays and maybe even get our picture taken. Please respond ASAP so that we can make plans. I hope that you are all having a good experience in your reading of the Book of Mormon. I just finished reading I Nephi 15. My favorite verse from that chapter is verse 11. I used it in a fireside talk I gave at our Stake last Sunday. Pray for me tomorrow. I will be the guest of a group of Catholic friends and will speak to them and answer questions about our Church. It should be a great opportunity to share my testimony. Keep being good.

Just a short blog cause only one person has wriutten since I did. Brynley, you're my kind of girl. I took a look at the card you sent Grandpa. My dad always taught us to conserve paper. That was a neat Birthday Easter card. I just have about 2 more hours and I will have all the Christmas stuff put away. It's taken me weeks, but I hope to finish it today. Love ya all lots. And a Happy Birthday to Matt, Abby, Jodi, Shaylee, and Michael. ibmom & gma

ibmom & gma 2008

Dear wonderful family,

I've so many things to say, I don't know where to begin. First of all, thanks for making Grandpa's birthday special. Thanks for the many phone calls and cards. It was special. He especially appreciated the air compressor. And what a night we had with Jeff and Linda. They brought the dinner and prepared it. Jeff cooked Talapai which is a new fish from Chili. Then we watched a movie with them. Jeff's keeping his blood sugar down but still has some problems.

I enjoyed your pictures of your winter vacation. Even the snow looked beautiful. I remember the days when. We are getting a beautiful rain right now. I enjoyed the comments about little Carson. Bytheway, little Jocelyn is very ill with the croup. They've had her in and out of emergency. They're not getting much rest in that household. I just put her name on the Temple roll. Your prayers will be appreciated.

I was so discouraged last week, but am feeling some better. The antibiotic worked but I'm still wearing the oxygen 20/7. I've been working a little bit each day on getting my Christmas stuff put away. Jill, Jeff got the VCR working and taught me how, I think. I go along with you all. Life is wonderful and I look towards getting back into my BYU. Love, gma and ibmom

Is it already 2008

-Brynley
I have been checking the blog for over 3 weeks, and nobody had added, so I didn't want to add on top of my old post. Then I finally realized that I had to refresh my page and have missed the past several posts from you. Jodi, I love those pictures of your baby. I love that kid, he's too cute for words, so I won't try. So far I have really enjoyed 2008. But I think December 2007 will be hard to beat. It was so nice being at wolf creek with my family. Thanks Dad for that most wonderful, memorable opportunity. Skiing, snowshoeing (Snow rolling), games, it all couldn't have been more enjoyable. I sure love my niece and nephews, it has been fun to spend time with all of them. Work is going well, I enjoy what I do (most of the time) and I am content that I don't have to return to school tomorrow. Maybe I'll go skiing instead.
Thanks to Ryan, Jodi, and Kyle for your financial advice and help and Troy and Kyle for small electronic device advice. I am blessed to have what I do and who I do. I have been working in 2008 to get my life in order. It is coming, slowly, but surely there are things I've wanted to get to for a long time that I am finally getting to. I'm excited for a new start and a new year. Life is great and I love you all.

A New Year

Well, I read Dad's history of last year and I am plum tuckered out to see all the things that went on last year. What an eventful year for all of us. We are truly blessed with so many good things in life. We stopped at our house today and here is the latest. They have laid the tile, sheetrocked and will be applying stucco and brick soon weather holding.

Here are some memories from last month. It was a biggie.

The good times roll!
Jodi and Matt, keep on loving that little cutest of all baby boys and keep those pics coming. Love the baby blog. Bryn, I am starting school this Monday, YOU ARE NOT!! Troy, nice job on the carpets at the Kyle houses and Kyle, wow the girls house looks terrific with its new face lift. I exchanged my ski boots for some that are much more comfortable. Thanks for the ski package! Kat and Ryan, I hope the little people are doing much better by now. They caught the croup gene from you Ry. You had some pretty tough battles as a little inpatient. I look forward to seeing ya'll real soon at Carson's house for Sunday dinner. Love you all...MOM

Sweet Baby

Jodi -
Well, it would seem all I talk about now is our little guy. But hey, that is really all that is going on in my life right now! I did go to Matt's sisters house on Friday night and hung out with the girls in his family, it is Barbara's birthday so we had a girls night out. It was fun for an all girls night, but I missed my boys. My friends came over an took some sweet pictures of Carson, I posted a sample on the Carson blog. Sorry, it has issues posting so many photos, so I'll keep putting a link when I update that so you don't have to look at two blogs, just click on the link when its needed. Hope you are all enjoying your Saturday. Hope to see you here on Sunday if its good weather.

First Blog of the New year

Good 2008 to each of you. I love you each and all. Today is the first work day of the new year and I am a little late getting away. It is a good thing that we won't have students until next Monday. Yesterday I got to put Carson to sleep for the first time, give my father a blessing and play with my favorite two and three year olds in the world. That is what I would call a great start to a year that promises to be the best ever. I also read 1 Nephi chapter 1. You see, this is a Book of Mormon year in our Church and I want to challenge each member of our family to read a chapter a day for 239 days. I would also like to invite all family members who have finished 1st Nephi by Fast Saturday in February (that will be Feb. 2) out do dinner at Chuck-A-Rama at 3:30 PM. We will go to the one in Bountiful. I would also like to challenge everyone to choose a favorite or most meaningful verse in each of the 22 chapters and take them with you to Chuck-a-Rama. I hope that all of you, especially my Grandchildren can be there. (Small kids are free). My favorite verse in 1 Nephi 1 will always be verse 5 (huh Brynley) where Lehi prays with all of his heart in behalf of his people. You are my people and I am determined to pray for each of you each day with all of my heart. See the clan this next Sunday at 4:30 at Carson's house.
Love
DAD
