Work, play, work, play

Brynley says:
Well tonight is the first night I play church ball- I'll be honest, I'm quite excited. I didn't even think I liked basketball, but I'm excited to play tonight. This was a noteworthy week for some, well at least for Dean. After over a month of serveral trips to the racquetball court, he finally came out on top. After losing about 20 games, he went to the gym on his free time and practiced, well it paid off. He got me one out of the 4 games we played on Monday night. I think he was pretty proud of himself, but rightfully so, I'm pretty tough competition.
Work is going well. I'm making a lot of changes with some of my programs, and it doesn't make everyone happy, but hopefully it will be the right thing, and people will soon see that too. Next month is going to be a very busy one. We'll be recruiting for soccer during the day, and basketball at night, so some long days, but I like it when I'm there, so no complaints. And really I've got a job so no complaints.
RS life is going better. I'm starting to get to know peole who I should have met in the last 2 and a half years that i've been in the ward, but it's coming. We're getting a new bishop this Sunday, so that will be a pretty big change. Our bishop is a great instructor, and a pretty nice guy once you get to know him.
Let's just say that for me-life is good. Love you all!

Dad is now 3 for 3

I don't know when this competition ends, but I have already spent my $100. In fact Mom and I spent it last night at Savers. We found some great deals and now we have something to wear. In fact I wore my new sport coat and slacks to work today. We went with Troy and Marissa to Gibby's on Saturday and picked out the flowers for the upcoming nuptuals. It was oh so fun! Matt Lloyd came by on Saturday and got us hooked up with a DVR so now we can record stuff and watch it when we want to. We also go HD-TV but I don't think we will keep it because I can hardly tell the difference. I am enjoying my teaching, I love Sundays when the family comes over, Mom and I get to speak in Church on Feb. 8th and I am hoping that the U can beat the Y in basketball tonight. I hope you are all keeping up on your reading of the D&C this year. I love that book!

Inez Marler

Dear Favorite Bloggers in the whole world:

It was so good to read your Blogs. My typing is terrible with these arthritic fingers. Hope I don't make too many mistakes. That airplane accident on the Hudson sounds more interesting when I know someone that close to the action. 60 blocks! wow! Thanks Kyle for calling last night. It is always so good to hear personally from you grand kids and want you to know, you are all in our prayers. Grandpa has had some other challenges and having tests for prostrate problems. He is on dizzy pills again and is being very careful and usully walks with his walker around the house. We have a good neighbor who brings our paper right to the door. I think it's the neighbor's father who is 92 years old. Jeff has been over a lot and calls most every day. He still hasn't found work but has had one interview with the State and has another one with a Private trucking Co. next Wed. Our prayers are with him. Put it down on your calendars. We will have a Giant Brimley Family Reuinion. They want the 2nd oldest child; that's Jill for our family, Susan for Jay's and so on. I hope there aren't any races, or hikes or other things that would prevent you from coming. Like I have always said "Do as many things as you can while you"re young." And, "Don't let too many years go by without seeing and visiting with some of us old timers." You'll never be sorry that you did. Weather still a little cold our there 52 degrees but the sun is shining. We've had about 4 days of light rain.-not complaining. Love you more than you will know, GMA & Ibmom

Jodi - Is in California

So I just got home from Ruth Chris steakhouse. We were there for 3 hours eating. Yes 3 hours. My tradeshow started today and so I've been selling, selling, selling. Its fun to see people I usually only e-mail but its exausting too.
I miss my little bubba too. He is so dang cute. He's eating real people food now if I can get him to partake. He still likes his bottle best and the Gerber baby food. So it will be a process with all the new textures.
Paris Hilton decided she likes scrapbooking so she came out with a line of products and showed up at the tradeshow for like an hour. Weird.
I'm really tired so I'm going to turn in for the night. Love you all.
PS You are an amazing family and I love you a ton.

Planes are landing in the water!! (KP)

So in case you didn't hear, a plane landed in the Hudson River last week. In case you didn't know, my office is less than 100 yards from the Hudson. In case you didn't hear, I'm okay. I didn't get any water splashed on me when it landed. Although I do have to admit that I was a little disappointed that nobody called to make sure that I didn't have hypothermia from being in the Shamu splash zone of the plane. It actually landed about 60 blocks up river from us, but they tied it off about 300 yards from our front door. I went out one day and took a few pictures, but they're not worth sharing because you can't see anything more than the US Airways fin sticking out of the water. So that was my dose of excitement for the week.

Other than that, things have been pretty normal around here. We've had a few dinner parties over at Emily's place. My place is too crowded and has too many dudes to have people over for dinner. We also went out to a nice Cuban restaurant with some people from Emily's work. They were all nice people and only one of them got wasted. Another piece of notable news is that Em and I are no longer going to run the Myrtle Beach Marathon on Valentine's day. It filled up so we couldn't sign up unless we paid $500 to the Leukemia society. So it looks like we'll now be running the DC Marathon on March 21. While that won't give us enough time to register and run the Boston in April, it should be a really cool marathon to run.

Well, that's about all I have to say for now. I love you all and I can't wait to see you all next week! I'll be there on Wednesday night until the following Thursday.

Love ya!

Mini Miracles- ( The Mom)

WOW DUDES and DUDETTES- Look at these posts this week so far...and KATHERINE! You are the bomb, complete with pics. That was a quick study. Lots has happened in the month of Dec and now most of January.

First, g'pa is home from the hospital and looking forward to getting some physical therapy to help him build the strength in his legs. Hoping that we are through for a while with all those "controlled substances" like codeine, morphine, hydrocodone...etc. Too risky. So we're glad that he's home and not any worse than it could have been with his tumble.

The last two months have been full of great things, family, fun, snow, blue sky, full moons, parties, food, lights, games, food, horses, cutest g'kids ever, first words, skiing, food, snow shoeing, Arizona, G&Gpa's wonderful hospitality, work projects, inaugurations, economy, Kyle and Emily in Utah then NYC, friends, crazy beautiful sunsets, wedding planning, pine trees, mountains, on and on.
Great posts everyone. The games HAVE begun!!
Love you all- MOM

I'm official (Katherine)

Give me a little competition and I'm in. Thanks Jodi and grandma for setting me up with an account and a little lesson on blogging.

Yesterday was Abby's 5th birthday and as you all know we had a pajama party with 7 little girls. Thank goodness for Ryan, and Grandma and Grandpa being there. Ryan played bingo while Grandma ironed pillowcases, Grandpa picked up pizza, etc. Spencer had been so excited for Abby all day that is was her birthday until about the last hour. I think it all started when he didn't make it on a pillow in time for the game musical pillows and he doesn't understand the concept of good sportsmanship. This kid does not like to lose. He had not had a nap which doesn't help, but by the end of the night it was nobody will let me do anything. We then realized there might be a little sense of jealousy. So we started talking about Spencer will have a birthday soon and what does he want to do for his birthday. That seemed to change his mood and went to bed thinking about everything he wanted and what kind of party he wanted to have. It was all great until he came running into my bedroom first thing this morning saying, " Yeah, it's my birthday today!! I am a birthday boy he says while he is doing his little dance. I laid in bed thinking Uh-oh. This could be a long 3 months.

Abby is so excited she is 5. She keeps asking, Mom am I really 5 now? We are so thankful for Abby in our family. Well, see ya next week! Katherine

The Prodical Son has Returned

It must be my lucky day as I tried to log on to make a post. And the first password I tried worked!! Sometimes it's hard to remember which password goes to which account.

I most likely win the award for longest time between posts. Although I might have several excuses for not making it happen, like anything, it still would be an excuse.

Today is Abby's 5th birthday. It seems just like yesterday that I held her for the first time promising to be the best Dad ever to her. Sometimes I wonder if I'm holding up my end of the bargain, but she sure has been a wonderful blessing in my life. Nothing can be too bad knowing that I've got a couple of children at home that love their Dad regardless of anything else that transpires.

Last June, my business partner unexpectedly left the financial planning business. Also last June is when the financial markets began to plummet to a level not seen for a long time. This past November, another successful Financial Advisor decided to leave the business, and thus pass his business to me as well. The amount of account and assets that I'm now in charge of has quadrupled, but the number of fires to put out each day seems to have grown by 1000%. There's no doubt that the way I do business has forever changed since what has transpired over the past several months. I am looking forward to the day when I can deliver good news again as well. It seems as though it's been awhile since I've been able to do that.

We love our new home and our new ward. I'm back working in the Young Men's program. I think I could stay there for the rest of my time in mortality and be just fine with it. It's hard though when I see them make decisions that only makes this difficult life more difficult. I'm more convinced than ever that the recipe to life is living the gospel and by serving others. This agency thing that we all fought so hard for in the pre-existence is such a wonderful deal, but man, it can sure snowball quickly once anyone temporality removes the Armor of God for a time. I'm so grateful for the Atonement, but certain decisions certainly can have long lasting consequences!!

It's sure a wonderful thing being apart of such an awesome family. I also appreciate how all of you love my children so well. There's no doubt that the heros in their lives are all of you. Thanks for the great examples and love you show to all of them.

And to you down south of us, even Grandpa and Grandma Marler......we sure love you and pray for you on a daily basis......

Well, gotta run now. Spencer didn't take a nap today and he just made the decision to go to bed with the help of his Father!!

Happy Birthday Abby, Shaylee and Jodi. Hope you like your present Jodi;-/

Matt, Michael, and Jodi Blow out those candles! happy bday you three.

Snowshoeing up Soldier Hollow. Notice the blue-not gray sky. It was such a beautiful day!

Now we're done snowshoeing, and still smiling!

My name is on top-Just for you grandma!
It was sure fun to see everyone with January birthdays last night. I think that every season of every year of the past few years I have a new theme. I've had volleyball summer, skiing winter, hiking summer, biking fall, rock climbing spring and It appears that this winter is snowshoeing. It is so nice to get out of the yucky polluted air and enjoy blue skies! That's what we did yesterday, and it was fabulous! Let me up there any time of the day. Work is great. We've already spent the $5000 of grant money that we got and have had a great time up in the mountains with these kids. I have the day off today and it's been a very lazy day, so I better get going. Grandpa, I'm sad that it's been a rough couple of weeks for you. You are in my prayers, along with the rest of you that are reading this. Love you all!

January and holding (Jodi)

Ok, so I admit...I don't post on the family blog like I should. So I will keep my pictures on Carson's blog then do some real talking on this blog. So if you want to see Christmas pictures click over to Carson's blog!

As for January...Well I have been very busy at work...as is typical for a January. I love busy so thats good. Preparing for a lot of shows coming up over the next few months.

Today Carson spent the day at the Coys playing with their kids as its a holiay for some so Debby decided to go out of town. Anyone free tomorrow?

Tomorrow we get a new president. Thats right...we'll see how he does. He already has some cool ideas that sound great and also some rotton ideas so guess we'll get the good with the bad. I am however going to a big inagruation party that night in Park City with some friends so I'm excited for that. Maybe we'll see some B list celebrities as it is Sundance this week.

Wednesday will be my first day of school. I already have completed one paper for my first class. For those who don't know...yes I'm going back to school. Since my mom and sister got their Masters degree I thought I better follow suite! So I'm going back to get my degree in Highschool Counseling. Every Wednesday night for the next two and a half years I'll be in class. If you are wondering! So Happy Birthday to me here I'm going back to school.

Friday I'll be flying to California for the first trip of the year. So here I go. I'll be stay just feet away from Disneyland so if you want to have a free room come on over. Have a good time...I'll be the one in the convention center!

Ok...that a week in my Life. Love you all family of mine. Till next week...........

Jan. 19, 2009

It is always good to post your name at the top of the blog so we'll know whose talking to us. I had a great day yesterday. I got to Sac. Mtg. There was a couple who had returned from Africa. The Sister gave such a discription of the dire poverty they live in. Everything is filthy. Just out houses even at Church. The Church is making a big difference. They're teaching the importance of cleanliness. The importance of pride even though you don't have much, you can keep it clean. We were so lucky to have been born in the Church; to be born in America; to have our lovely homes, beautiful chapels, etc. It may not have been luck. We may have earned it. I'm going to miss your big birthday party, but we will be thinking of you. Happy Birthday to Dale, Shaylee, Matt, Abby, & Michael. Cards may come late all beause of Martin Luther King's Birthday, the Post Office is closed. Last Fri., we had a big FHE with the Brimley brothers and sisters at Ned's House. I Love them all. They are talking about a BIG Brimley Reunion. That will depend on our second child to co-plan it with all the other 2nd children; that would be you Jill. Blaine will name a date sometime. Dad & GPA had to go to emergency last week. Jeff took him there. The pain was so bad. They prescribed Tylenol with Codine and a muscle relaxant. It makes him sleepy. He will go to the Surgeon with the X-Rays, (which by the way is on a CD disk,
instead of a big manilla envelope.) He will just make sure nothings out of place from his hip operation and I suppose will send him again to the Spine Dr. Jeff is still out of work. sending out resumes. He's had a couple of tire dealers call him. He would have to be on his feet too mich. Love, ibm and GMA

I've already spent the $100

Mom and I went to Stake Conference today and they sustained a new Stake Presidency. It was a little wierd because we didn't personally know any of the old or the new, but the conference was great. We had Elder Dallin H. Oaks speak to us. He is one of my personal favorites of all time, maybe because of the interview we had with him 8 or 9 years ago. I have never seen him as informal and funny as he was this weekend. One message that was given by our new Stake President, John Holingshead, and was repeated by Elder Oaks is the importance of prayer in our homes. Pres. Holingshead said that his first memories were of kneeling at his mother's side while she taught him to pray. One of the things that I miss most since we became empty nesters is family prayer. Mom and I always pray together before we go to bed, but I want to start praying with any of our kids when you come over before you leave. I think it would be a great blessing to Mom and I. Well, I better keep this short; reading all those weekly blogs is going to take a whole bunch of time for ya'll. See you at the BBP (Big Birthday Party)

Uh Huh

Well, I'm anxious to see if this new incentive is going to work with my family. I really do check this thing, and get only a little sad when I was the last post. As of lately I have not a whole lot to report. Except that I am enjoying working, playing and not being in school. I have coworkers and friends, and a brother who just started back to school, and I don't mind having the night, and the only deadline I have is to write on this blog.

I still like my job quite a bit. I'll be x-country skiing tomorrow and snowshoeing on Friday. I do work Thursday night which is the first night of ward basketball, I'm sad I'll have to miss it.

I ran 9 miles today and am trying to pump myself up for another 26.2. Kim keeps telling me that this is addicting, and I'm trying really hard to get addicted, but am having a hard time. I am excited to take a trip to Boston-I've never been there. I just bought my plane tickets. It looks like I'll be going to DC, then to NYC then to westborough. So per Kyle's request, I'll stay with you a couple nights in the big city in April;-)

Well, life in SLC just keeps on keepin on. Life is good here, I hope it is good wherever this blog may find you. Love you all!
I finally got pictures back from our murder mystery on Halloween. Thanks for your house mom and dad!
Snowshoeing with my roommates Friday night. Beautiful, bright moon, great, soft snow, very, very fun.

I think I lost every battle that night
Jan 13, 2009

Dear Everybody:

I quit posting in about Nov. cause I was the only one. I'm sitting here at 12:50 p.m. and its a cool 60 degrees out there. Grandpa and I are suffering with aches and pains. He's resting now and I will go in later. We've both have a cold which makes me tired all the time. Kyle sounds like you're'having a ball. I like the way you put it: Making Memories.

They've stopped delivery on our Mesa Tribune. Grandpa's had withdrawal symptoms. I thought he watches news on tv and computer. But he wants to know when the games are on and that other stuff. So we are starting with the ArizonaRepublic.

I hope to be able to come up for the weddings in Mar. So if you see any good prices on the internet, let me know. Id have to be feeling lots better than I am now. I didn't go to Sac. meeting cause I stayed in bed most of the day.

Jeff has an interview with the State for that Prison job. We hope and pray for him.

Congratulation For all The birthdays in Jan. Gpa the 2nd; We had a surprise party for him at the CC. Jill was here and we invited Jeff and Linda. Then we got a Bithday Cake for him with a lot of candles. Our waitress made the invitation on the microphone. for everyone to come and get a piece. So we shared the cake with everyone. GPA was so pleased with the people who came to wish him weii.

The other birthdays are: Shaylee, the 16th; Matt, the 17th; Abby the 20th; Michael the 24th; and Jodi, the 21st,

Love to everybody that makes my life so happy, ibm0m & gma

Plastic Skating (KP)

Oh, I see how it is. It's on like Donkey Kong! When there's a Benjamin on the line, you know I'm in it to win it!

So it's been an exciting couple of weeks since I've been back here in the city. Work is going well and it's slowed down a ton since the end of last year when things were crazy and I was working like a mad man. Emily and I have been having a ball here in the frozen city. It snowed this weekend and we took a walk in the snow covered park. We went to the Museum of Natural History and learned about the veracity of the Big Bang Theory (we're going inactive now). We went ice skating on what we thought was an ice rink but turned out to be a plastic rink. Talk about a waste of $20! It was like roller blading at Classic Skating on skates with no wheels (except there's a giant lit up polar bear in the middle). I bought Emily a bike for Christmas so we've been on several bike rides (this will also come in hand for any of you who decide to visit.......I now have two bikes and live 100 yards from Central Park......why has nobody from my family come to visit yet?)

Speaking of visiting, that seems to have just become a little more difficult. But don't hesitate, we've still got room for two and possibly three at a time. So my roommate, Kyle, also works at American Express and he dislikes his job in a major way. He decided he wanted out so he found someone to take his spot in our apartment. Well, this new guy, Collin, moved in on January 4th. In the meantime, Kyle decided that he would stick things out with his job for the time being so he stayed here. He moved into Nate's room which is about the size of Mom's Geo Prism. So now we have five dudes, three bedrooms, one bathroom, and a sweet futon. Needless to say, things aren't exactly "roomy", but rent will be cheap! I think I'll probably end up paying $600 per month. What a deal!

Well, I think that's all I'll write for now. I love you all. Oh, by the way...... I'll be in Utah from January 28th until February 5th. I'll be working from the Amex Service Center in West Valley, working from Mom and Dad's, skiing, visiting my brothers and sisters and nephews and niece, and having a grand ol' time.

By the way.... the Draper Temple sounds great. I could go if we went on the 29th or later. I'm not sure of the dates of the open house, but I'd love to come.

Love ya!

-KP

Too much pressure

You guys are asking for it. I am going to bore you with a blog every week until the 2nd coming. Thanks to all for a wonderful holiday season. I am very thankful for our family. I love you all. The Sugar Bowl was the funnest ball game in my memory. Speaking of memories, I think that we all ought to go out of our way to continue to make them with each other. I would like to suggest that we make the memory of going to the Open House of the the new Draper Temple together. How would it be if we set the date of Tuesday, January 27th in the evening. If you will check you calendars, I will try and get tickets.

Prizes Galore...don't miss out!!

OK all you people of my favorite family in the whole wide world. Kyle had a most excellent suggestion. Remember the days when we used to really know what each other was doing because we had the opportunity to write to our favorite missionary of the moment on Sunday night or Monday morning before they got their email? Well, it was great. I could read about each other and know what was going down with everyone.

So......here's the deal. I am going to send out an auto reminder email each Sunday morning to remind ya'll to write a quick blip on the blog. (Pictures are icing on the cake). Also, as a fun incentive, I came across $100 that was gifted to me by an unnamed giver. I am putting that $100 on the contest block.
Here are the rules.
1. Write on the blog regularly WEEKLY as you can.
2. The one with the most postings weekly is the winner of the cash.
(Writing multiple times in the same week won't put you ahead..only one will count for the week)
3. The contest starts this week (week of Jan 12).
4. The end of a week is Saturday at 12:00 a.m. The beginning of a week is Sunday at 12:01.
5. The end of the contest is Dad's birthday, April 24, 2009. (Studies say that if you do something for three months, it is likely to become a habit.)
6. This includes G'ma and Gpa Marler!
7. Use of the prize money....whatever you want! But we will be making a big TADO presenting it at Dad's BD party whenever that is. The winner also gets to make a slave of the rest and ask everyone to do one service for him/her....(make a shake, long back rub, or have them do stuff like go to Walmart, go into a fitting room, shut the door, wait awhile, then yell very loudly, 'Hey! There's no toilet paper in here!')
So you don't want to lose on this one!
Ready, get set, GO!!! See ya'll on the blog.
This was Wednesday's sunset.....WOW! Spectacular. Alta is looking pretty good as well!

Utes, Utes, Utes

So we are home from the Big Easy. And I noticed its been a while since the last post! We took a trip to Lousiana to see the Sugar Bowl. The Utes pulled of one amazing victory. Carson loved the game even though it was amazingly loud.
Here is Carson's Dad who held him so much during the game...Carson loved it all! Cute hot baby!
