what do you do when you're tired?
Hello family. I've got a pretty large assignment due tomorrow right after work, so I couldn't think of a better time to post a quick update on my life. Life is going a lot right now. I just started my new job back at the Sorenson Center and it has been more than a little overwhelming. I did manage to get my 40+ hours last week and I take Monday's off and leave early on Tuesday and Wednesday for class, but...we're making it through. I figure just 10 more weeks and work is all I will know so I better live this time up. A quick rundown of what I do for work. I got thrown into the soccer season. I basically just run the program for the little soccer leagues at the Sorenson Center. I wish it wasn't so unorganized when I started last week. The only girl that works in this department quit after two days of me being there, so if I ever want to know how it was done, or what loose ends I have to tie, I just wait for someone to complain or tell me the way it used to be. But I have to say, right when I don't know how something will get covered, miracles will happen, and someone will come through. I am now hoping to pull off a miracle and get an assignment done for tomorrow. Things are busy, but life is good. I love you all!

Dear you all,
The time goes fast. Last week was used getting new Poll Addresses on all my lists. I talked to Brynley, Kyle, Jill two or three times. First I had the wrong address on her birthday card. Second, I had the wrong street No. on her check. I resent her card and am looking for it coming back, agaaain. I used the wrong numbers on the St. No. So for your information it is: 756 S. 500 E., Salt Lake City, 84102. I also called Kyle for his address. His address is: 1183 Canyon
Meadow Dr. Unit #3; Provo, Utah, 84606. I felt punk and came home after jus 10 minutes of R.S. We watched Diamondbacks lose to LA Dodgers. After the game, at about 6:00 p.m., I took teo Tylenol P.M. and went to bed. I slept till about 8 this morning. They had a fantastic pitcher. I think his name was Bollinger. I wish we had him on our team. Bytheway, Jill, What was the score for Las Vegas & Utah. I looked every place I knew to look on the internet and I couldn't find it. Our next door neighbor e-mailed us from Canada to say he wouldn't be down this year because of hiss illness. He says they can't get travelling insurance. I think he must have cancer. So if any of you know of anyone that wants a beautiful winter home, it's here next door to us. I've called for my final and should hear any day about taking it. It's kind of scary. It will be in the form of two essays on what we've read in 450 pages. Ive got an idea for the first one, but I haven't got it down nor an idea for the second one. Well I go yo the skin Dr. to have some growths removed. I've got some on my neck prpbablly an irritation from the oxygen tube. Well I've got to close now. Kyle I really enjoyed your tour. Sounds like you had a blast. I hope we sll endure until the end and for me, I hope I endure till I get 30 more hours in. Love, ibmom & GMA

He's Back on the Blog
KP
Well, well, well, look who decided to show up on the blog. I have to say that I’m very very sorry for the length that has passed between posts. I have been busy but I really have no excuse. It’s been on my mind ever since I got back from Europe and I just keep thinking that I have so much to write about that it’s going to take forever. Well, all excuses aside, here I am on Sunday night blogging just like the good old days. Let’s start with Europe, it was amazing!
I’ve posted some pictures which I hope you enjoy. I think I’ve told most of you about the trip and some of you have even suffered through some pictures, but for those who don’t know, I went with two girls, Sara Borg and Leslie Smith. We flew from NYC to London. We had a layover in Montreal which is where Air Canada decided to leave my bags. So we got to London on Saturday morning and Sara and I were without bags. We saw all of the classic sites in London (Trafalga Square, Big Ben, the London Eye, Kensington Palace, Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, etc.). We stayed with a lady that we found through this Servas organization. She was very kind and wanted to talk a lot more than we did. Anyhow, we enjoyed England.
Sunday, after church in Engaland, we flew to Paris. We really enjoyed Paris too. We saw all the great sites there too (the Lourve, Notre Dame, the Eiffel Tower, etc) We also went out to the Palace of Versailles. French is the craziest language. I don’t think I’ll ever understand how they pronounce stuff there. We stayed in this cute little hotel that gave us great breakfasts. We stayed there until Wednesday morning when we took off to Italy. Italy was probably my favorite country of the trip. We flew into Rome and stayed with a lady who is a member of the church there that we knew through some friends. She was wonderful. Rome was amazing. All of the history there, the ruins, the scooters. Ya know. We loved riding scooters through the streets of Rome. On Friday we went to the Vatican. That was a pretty cool experience. After reading the Da Vinci Code, it was neat seeing some of the places that it refers to in that book. It was very interesting learning about some of the history that goes along with that place too. On Friday afternoon we took a train to Florence. Florence was pretty neat, but we didn’t have a lot of time there. The most notable thing that happened in Florence was that I got robbed. Well, they just stole two pairs of shorts while they were at the Laundromat. I had bought both pairs out in Europe because Air Canada still hadn’t sent me my bags. Well, on Saturday we went to a place called Cinque Terre. I’ve gotta tell you, this place is amazing. It means 5 earths and it was beautiful. They were these colorful little cities on the coast of Italy. We hiked through all five cities and did some great swimming in the Mediterranean. On Sunday we went to church in this place called la Spezia. It was interesting hearing sacrament meeting in Italian. I understood a lot, but obviously not everything. Then we flew out of Pisa. Pisa was pretty cool, we saw the leaning tower and took some nice pics.
Our last stop was Spain. We started on the coast in a little town called Lloret de Mar. It was beautiful and we spent a day enjoying the beach and the Mediterranean. We did some parasailing (which is pretty anticlimactic if I do say so myself) and I scraped up my food pretty good after doing a flip off a cliff. You’re right Mom, I am an idiot. Well, then we cruised down to Barcelona. Barcelona is a neat city. There’s this church there called the Sagrada Familia that has been under construction for like 125 years and it’s got another 25 years or so to go. It’s the weirdest thing. We rented scooters there too, but Sara wrecked hers so that kind of put a damper on that adventure. Well, we were pretty beat after so much traveling, but we really enjoyed it. I’m so glad I had a chance to get out there. I’d love to go back sometime and hit some more places out there.
Well, life back in Provo is way too busy. I’ve barely had time to get unpacked in the month that I’ve been here. School is really busy and so is this student council deal that I’m doing. I’m also in this thing called Cougar Capital that is a great opportunity but it’s taking a lot of time. We had a conference this weekend called the Investment Professionals Conference where about 200 LDS investment professionals from all over the world. I was assigned to be the escort for Governor Huntsman, so I spent some time chatting with him. He’s about like I imagined he would be. I also had a chance to talk for awhile with Gary Crittendon. He is such a great guy. Everyone at American Express just loved him and it is easy to see why. I listened to him talk twice and enjoyed it both times.
So I know this has been really long and I won’t feel bad if you didn’t read it all. I guess if you didn’t read it all, you probably won’t be reading this so I don’t know why I wrote it. Boy, I’m tired. Well, it’s been good being home and seeing all of you. I can’t wait to get out to AZ to see Grandma and Grandpa and be with y’all for Thanksgiving. The best news of the day is that my friend Aliye that lives in the Bronx called me tonight and he’s getting baptized on November 17th! I’m really excited and I’m going to try to get out there for that.
I think I’ll hit the sack now, I need to get up super early to do homework. I love you all so much. Thanks for being the best family of all time!!
Love,
KP

The Purple Reign
Well, so far this has been one of the busiest weeks of my life. Last Thursday Weber threw a pizza party at the University Village that was a great success and it was nice to have that over with. We had about 250 people in attendance which is pretty good for a Weber acitvity. Saturday we had our kick-off party for homecoming week which was held at Lindquist Field where I got to play in two of the three softball games of the evening. We won both and I hit an in the park grand slam in the second game. I don't do that very often so it was fun for me. Monday we had our Paint the Town Purple Contest. We met at Burger king where we gave away Whopper Jr. value meals to everyone who came. I talked to my Stake President and it was made a stake FHE activity and we also had some other singles wards that showed up including Ryan's ward in Layton. We painted over 40 local businesses and had over 200 people show up which is a really good number for such an event. My institute committee threw a tailgate party for our Volleyball game tuesday night and we had a huge turnout. We ran out of food pretty quick and we had facepainting for everyone and we made posters to use in the game. The gym was so filled up that people were standing up because there weren't enough bleacher seats for our huge crowd. Weber lost in five games with the last game score of 19-17 for BYU after their serve rolled over the net and dropped straight down. Heartbreaker! With those events over I have alot of stress off, but when the week is over it will be even better. Today I was voted in as this years Homecoming King at Weber State so that is a new one for me. I get to wear a sash and a crown so it's pretty cool. The dance will be this Friday and the game will be Saturday at 1:00 vs Montana State. For those of you that don't know, my friend Drew Nusser is getting married. Yes, I know, it's hard to believe, but on the 29th of this month he will tie the knot officially. Everyone will be invited to the reception, but nobody should feel pressured to go.
That is about it for me as of late. I got to get back to studying now. I am sure grateful for a job that allows me to work on homework during my free time because I don't know when else I would do it! I have been truly blessed with lots of opportunities that keep me engaged in good causes. I am even more grateful for a family that I love so much and that supports me and always has supported me in anything I have needed.
Love yall,
Troy Poll

Home Again, Home again
Well family...just a quick note to tell you I'm safe at home. We had an amazing time in Africa, and I wish each of you had been there, but i'll tell you any story you'll listen to:) I had a flight to Las Vegas today, and cancelled it at 6 am when I heard the show was slow and not worth it. So I'm glad to be here at work and not bored in Vegas...its good to have nothing that I HAVE to do tonight...Jet lag is still a bit wearing on me!
My friends from the event have posted some more photos and even some videos of our trip on their blogs...so if you have a minute... check them out...there are some great shots and it will give you a snap shot of our trip as well...

As I mentioned...Grandpa Holbrook died last week. We went to his funeral. They gave him a full military honors graveside service which I have never seen before...it was really cool. They really do present the widow with the flag from the caskett, they play the funeral march, then shoot twice. They then give the spent shell casings to the widow as well. It was amazing...and heart wrenching all at the same time. Its good to know he is happier now and with Matt's dad. Good thing we have the gospel in times like this...its still hard to say goodby, but we know its not forever so we can keep on going. He was really a good man...I'm glad I got to know him for the time I did. I got a kiss on the cheek each visit...so I'll have that to cherish always:)
Love you all family...good week for posts on the blog...
Dad - I will be flying to Mesa for Thanksgiving for sure and flying home on Sunday.
Grandma - i'll send you my flights as soon as I book them:)

11.5 Weeks
I can't believe it's the second half of September already! I have to admit that I love the weather and am trying to get out and enjoy it. Today was my last day of freedom and my only day that I've had "between jobs" I'll start work tomorrow and hopefully learn everything I need to quickly. I spoke with my advisor today and went over all of the things that I need to get done before December. Really, if that was the only thing I had to do between now and graduation, I think I'd be pretty confident in my abilities. But, I still have these three lingering classes and a new job, and really no stress right now. I am anxious to get done with this small graduate program and never look back. My last day at Allstate was a good one. It was weird to leave on a no-return basis. He gave me my paycheck on my way out and I'll probably never see Gavin Seal again. I went to Layton on Saturday and played in a volleyball tourney, it was wonderful weather, and I'm trying to accept a 4th place finish. It was a good time though. Well nothing else really note-worthy just that I love my family. Have a fabulous day!

from the Marlers
I haven't posted for a coupe of weeks, but I've read everything. Where do I start? Ryan I loved your miracle about cofirming that Spanish girl. I loved all your stories about Liberty Park as I grew up between 4th & 5th E. On Denver St. in SLC. We had lot and lots of fun there swimming, tennis, concerts, aviary, merry-go-round, picnics etc. Liberty Stake was also our Stake when President Hinckley's father, Bryant Hincley, was our Stake President. I don't remember him, but I do remember Mark Peterson who was in the Stake presidency after him. I loved your picture and experiences in Africa, Jodi. We were there and it is unbelievable to see all those animals and to be right there. Brynley. I hope Dec comes early for you and you get through with your Masters. I have just one more Special Assignment and the final and I will be through with world Civilizarion, hopefully in three weeks and then on to another. Hopefully, I'll get the 35 hours before I finish this life. I am so excited, Jeff is going to take me to a Diamondback Game tomorrow for FHE. Brandon Webb is pitching and they are playing the S.F. Giants. I hope some of you got thr Brimley Newsletter. Elizabeth did a wonderful job on it and we have a good family to be proud of. On not so bright a note, Caroliyn Marler passed away last week. We only heard about it through the newspaper by way of Bonnie Gibson and Barbara Brimley. If your're interested look up www.deseretnews.com. Glad Kyle made it home from England and his clothes finally cought up to him. Hope to hear from you all next week. Keep it up; I love to hear from you. ibmpm & gma.
Sunday the 16th
1. Yesterday and today was our Stake Conference in the Liberty Stake. The session last night was an all-time great one. They talked about Pioneers and they had a few pioneers who are members of our Stake who had moved here from Africa. The shared sweet and powerful testimonies. I loved the feeling I had when a sweet sister shared her testimony of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon being a 2nd witness of the Savior. Our meeting today was at the Assembly Hall. It was also an excellent meeting also. My favorite part of conference is sitting next to a pretty lady.
2. Ryan and I went to a most excellent football game yesterday and watched the UofU kill UCLA. We had a great pre-game meal, got to talk to some basketball coaches and really enjoyed the game. My favorite part was being with Ryan.
3. Mom and I went to a play with two of her friends from work on Friday evening. The name of the play was "The Secret Garden." I have heard a whole bunch of wonderful things about the play, but we were quite disappointed. It moved slowly, was hard to understand and follow. You'll never guess what my favorite part was.
4. It was great to see Bryson get married this week. Thanks to each of you for you efforts to support him and Candace. I was excited to see a student I taught over 30 years ago marrying a friend of mine from College. Both of them had lost their spouse in the past couple of years. I believe that have 15 children between them, but I imagine that they are mostly grown.
5. I have had the opportunity to speak in Sacrament Meetings twice in the past few weeks. Once in Ryan's ward and once in the South Weber singles ward. I talked about testimonies and the importance of keeping our testimonies growing all the time. I felt good and grateful for the opportunity.
6. I loved Mom's birthday party at Liberty Park! Thanks to all of you for arranging your life to be there. It was wierd for me not to give Mom and Birthday present. We made a no-presesnt pledge to each other. I guess it will aleviate stress and disappointment. I am so thankful for the Mother of my children.
I guess that there were only six things I wanted to share. I am loving life. I love my family. I know the gospel has been restored to the earth. Please let me know if there is anything that I can do for any of you. I have the time, the desire, a car, the Priesthood, sufficient money and a great interest in your well-being.

From the Fabulous Heart of Salt Lake City
So, I surely won't be able to top the African adventure. We just picked Matt and Jodi up and it was so great to hear of some of their amazing trip AND it is also great to see them again on the soil of the good ole USofA. The can feel a lot safer now, like for example when I was driving home a couple of days ago there were cop cars on every corner but mostly on our corner by Ricos. Dang, I was 10 minutes too late or I would have seen a gangster laid out on the ground getting handcuffed and the rest had scattered. So the cops had bloodhounds and were going all through the neighborhood and had set up a "parimeter" (that's Jack Bauer speak). Guess it was a clash between a white and a black gang.
Like Bryn said....all in a days work. So to get the flavor of our ward/stake, we went to Adult session of Stake conference. One guy, from Democratic Republic of Congo, spoke French and so he had a girl who interpreted his talk into English where some other interpreters were there in the crowd to interpret into Spanish for those who need that. Wild huh. His story was about growing up there in constant state of war, turmoil, running and ALWAYS hiding. He almost lost his life like others around him twice. One time he watched his Father and brother get killed. Another time, he escaped from the "secret prison" where people go and just disappear. Then he and his wife and a few kids ended up in a refugee camp where they almost starved, caught Scabies, and the condidtions were horrible. He prayed to get out. They said it would be 8 months. He couldn't stand it that long, so he prayed to God that their paper work would go through more quickly. After 3 short months, they were taken to the US. He didn't know where he would end up, but he knew when he got here he was going to look for a church. You can guess the rest.....Then another gal got up and was from Nigeria. She and her mom had looked and looked for a church they could believe in, but finally decided there was not one so they held their own little church at their house every week. The missionaries came but her mom was very skeptical....finally they joined and this girl went on a mission a year later to Ghana. Her soon-to-be husband was in the US and got a feeling he needed to go to Nigeria. He had no idea why, but went. Met this girl and they got married very soon aftter. A really cool couple. If you look around the audience you don't see very many families. Mostly elderly, newly weds and majority of single folks.
Our Stake Conference was held in the Assembly hall on Temple square.....WOW! Same old, same old. Our neighbor in our ward was just announced as Stake YW President. We talked to her after. There are about 15 girls in the whole stake who show up for activity so they have combined them and just have stake activity every week. There are about 60-70 girls elibible. And the ones who do show up I'm sure all have their various major issues and need the love and support of some example leaders.
So we were going to catch Trax to get to temple square but just ended up walking there instead. We are getting great ideas for our weekly "new" restaurant venture as we walk these streets.
My work had a surprise B-day party last Friday and I WAS truly surprised. I thought I had snuck under the radar being a weekend and all, but it was way cool anyway.
So now I see Dad blogging over there so I'm sure we'll repeat some of the same things.
I'll be for jumping off now.
Great story Ryan. That's a keeper. Jodi, thanks for the wild pictures (literally) and Bryn, good show ole girl. War wounds after all! Sweet!
Love you all!!

AMAZING WEEKS IN SOUTH AFRICA

We are now in Cape Town which offers and 180 degree different atmosphere. I'm sitting right now listening to the waves of the Atlantic ocean at our sea side hotel and we have been touring all over seeing the beautiful sites of this great place. We went to a restaurant that gave us traditional food and painted our face and did african dancing. We went on a tour to see Roben Island where Nelson Mandela stayed for about 28 years of his life and have been to the beach and a lot of shopping.

12.5 weeks to go
Consistency!!
We had a memorable weekend. Friday night, Abby danced at the halftime show for Northridge High School. She was so proud of herself and was even happier when her grandmas and grandpas showed up to watch her.
Saturday was a fun morning at we celebrated Mom's B-day. My children are absolutely spoiled when they hang out with the Poll family. No wonder they always get so excited when we have a Poll festivity.
Sunday was a long day at church as I started at 8am and went until 9pm. We had a convert baptism Sunday night for a 23 yr old girl from Mexico. She speaks Spanish and English just fine, but two minutes before the baptism, asked me to confirm her a member of the church in Spanish so her mother could understand. HELLO!! As many of you know, I've haven't done anything with my Spanish since I came home, and I was just stunned when she asked me to do it. It's so bad that when someone speaks to me in Spanish, I'll just respond back in English to avoid the shame that comes from being sooooo bad. I did consent but warned her that I might need some help from others. Needless to say, I ran to a private room and asked for some serious help as there is a major gap between my Spanish and what would need to be done in order to get the confirmation done in a way that would be pleasing to all.
And then the miracle happened. I got up and was able to speak in the confirmation in a way that I haven't been able to since I returned home from Chile. No help was needed as I was able to say the things I wanted in a very clear and concise manner. I even spoke to her mother afterwards and she commented how clearly I spoke the Spanish language. Needless to say, I drove home last night with tears in my eyes as I knew that what had happened was one of the tender mercies and gifts that from time to time happen. It was one of those things that I won't ever forget.
So that's my post for the day. Hope all of my family in all parts of this great green earth are doing well.
Love ya,
rp

Hello from South Africa
We met up with 7 other teachers from the states who we will be traveling with for the rest of the trip. They are all fantastic people and I would say I have made some new friends with people that are my competitors. How great is that:) So far, I don't have any wild lion stories or beautiful scenery, because it has been all work since we got here. The last two day I have been teaching scrapbookers all day. I had classes up to 190 people...that is A LoT! They love coming to the event though and are eager to tell us about their country and how beautiful it is and they have been very friendly to us apart from their generally negative opinion of Americans. Apparently we are all ignorant and do not know our foot from our hand...But it is funny to hear the stereotypes they have placed on Americans and funny to hear them talk about us. But they still love the class, so that is the good news:)
We are now done with the work part of our trip and travel tomorrow morning to 'The Busch' We will stay in a wild game park for 3 days then fly to Cape town to visit the famous sites their and shop at the local shops. SO work is finally over and the fun can begin...well more fun...because we have had so many experiences already!!!
I will say this...I am glad to live in America, we have so many opportunities that is just not common in other parts of the world. Next time I post, I'll include photos, but so far...there is just pictures of me and a bunch of scrapbookers...an believe you me...they look the same as in any other venue I have taught at!
The Birthday Bash
Hey, I wanted to thank EVERYONE for a fabulous birthday. Other than Dad saying Happy Birthday to me when my alarm rang early in the morning, I got a call first thing from me big brudder Joel. We recommitted to meet more often. I'm willing to tent it in Woodruff in sub-zero temperatures to get a chance to be with him!
Then I was MUCH surprised to see my little family show up to the church where we were doing some cleaning that we signed up for. What a wonderful surprise!! Thanks all...that was above and beyond the call of duty. We enjoyed running over to Liberty park again and this time we made omlettes over a pan of boiling water on the hot coals. It was delish, thanks to Kyle who has the ability to multi-task by cooking and playing Fink at the same time. As it turns out, even tho Kyle was ahead, there were some other sub-winners as well. Abby and Spencer enjoyed the Ferris Wheel, well, lets just say, Spencer really enjoyed it after he got off!
Then Brynley and I went mountain biking with some ladies from my work. It was a moderately technical trail by Deer Valley, but they were a lot of fun to ride with. With lots of big planted and loose rocks in the trail, it took a lot of maneuvering. As luck would have it, both good and bad, Bryn did a grand "endo" and biffed it causing some abrasions and contusions all over her darling little body. The good luck was that she was at the end of the trail when it happened, she did not get cut by the rocks, she did not break any bones. her helmet protected her head from the crash the bike took on it and she'll have some pretty good war wounds to talk about it. The bad news is that she got some pretty good dead legs from the handle bars on her thighs so I'm not thinking she'll be able to get sympathy comments on those deep bruises. OUCH!!! The good news is that she was still able to hobble into Ruby Tuesday in Park City for dinner with me. We really had a most enjoyable time talking and laughing. I just LOVE to be with ma kids and my family. You guys are the ever-living best! I got calls from all my brothers and my ma and pa who sang Happy Birthday two times per request so I could get them on speaker phone.
Love you all much bigger than Bear Lake!!

Labor Day Smorsgasborg
Hey all,
Thanks for coming on Tuesday to enjoy our Liberty Park/Kyle Poll Birthday affair. It is going to be fun to expand our horizons a bit with our new environment. We had tons of fun and here are some pics. Hopefully the link will work.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/10264957@N08/
Today Dad and I rode our bikes on the Jordan Parkway Trail for about 20 miles. We stopped by the Savers of the neighborhood and of course had some 1/2 off fun. It was a beautiful ride and I'm sure we'll do it again. Now we're off to a movie at the $1 place in Sugarhouse with Jod, then maybe a little hotdog roast back at the park and some Fink while we're waiting for the coals to heat up. Now do you know the reason we are doing all of this???
We looked all around our apartment and couldn't find one blade of grass to mow or one weed to pull. Psych!!!! We have a life and some freedom!!! Wahoo!!
Bryn I hope you are having so much fun in S. Utah this week and that hopefully you finished your papers. Yeh baby!
Thanks Kyle for the tickets to the BYU game. It was fun to be with KP on Sat and seeing his new digs and I got a chance to see Kyle's office in the Tanner building. Congrats on being the Student Body Pres to earn the Real Estate there! Thanks T-boy for helping to move KP's stuff into the car from your house.
We had a great time playing volleyball at G'ma and G'pas house on Sunday. Abby and Spencer where loving it just as much to have that whole yard to romp around in.
